In the production of polyurethane adhesives, paints, and coatings, the solvents, polyols, and other components need to be dried. If water is not removed from the oily two-component polyurethane, CO2 will be produced due to the reaction of water and isocyanate, causing foaming during curing, and eventually leading to the formation of carbon dioxide bubbles in the cured film, which not only causes bubbles of different sizes and pores, but also may reduce the gloss of the coating
This problem is quite prominent when spraying or paving polyurethane elastomers.
Water vapor or excessive stirring in the polyurethane construction environment will cause carbon dioxide gas to form pores in the coating.
Therefore, it is necessary to remove water from the polyurethane raw materials. Physical dehydration is a common process. Generally, oligomer polyols are dehydrated under reduced pressure at a high vacuum degree of 100-120°C for 1-2 hours to remove most of the water and meet the use requirements.
